Whilst studying towards my MFA at Newcastle University I met Sharmistha Kar, an Indian student studying at Newcastle on a Charles Wallace residency. We became friends and when she returned to India she invited myself and fellow artist, Paul Richardson, to stay there with her family and friends.
Sharmistha organised a whistle-stop tour of India and between us we consulted with various educational establishments to deliver a series of art workshops. With the help of Sharmistha's father, Tapan Kar we organised the first workshop in their family's village in Howrah District, India.
